Chanted Prayers and Meditation
Please check our
calendar page for up to date times of our chanted prayers and meditations. In Modern Buddhism Geshe Kelsang says "group prayers, known as 'pujas', are powerful methods to receive Buddha's blessings and protection." Everyone is welcome to all our pujas, Wishfulfilling Jewel is our daily practice, it lasts just over an hour and includes 20 minutes for silent meditation. This practice helps to inspire and protect the understandings we gain in our meditations. Heart Jewel is a shorter version of Wishfulfilling Jewel and is the main practice of Kadampa Buddhism. Offering to the Spiritual Guide takes place twice a month, on the 10th and 25th. These poetic chanted verses illuminate the entire path to enlightenment. Melodious Drum is chanted once a month on the 29th. This powerful practice is done to overcome difficulties in spiritual progress and to protect sincere practitioners from future difficulties. Last 3.5 hours. Precepts are taken on the 15th day of each month at 6.30am. This is a one-day purification practice where we eat one meal – lunch at 12.30pm – and refrain from any other food. It is also a time to refrain from negative thoughts, speech and actions. Tara prayers are held every month on the 8th. Buddha Tara is a female Buddha who rescues us swiftly from mental problems and physical dangers in the same way as a mother cares for her children. Dakini Yoga and Quick Path are for those with Highest Yoga Tantra Empowerments only. Sojong is for ordained people. Powa Ceremony is for those who have died recently. It is a very peaceful and uplifting method of helping our friends and relatives who have died to take a fortunate rebirth. Buddha’s Enlightenment Day is marked each year with special prayers. Three sessions are held on 15th April, for more information please get in touch
